Session 3: Maintain communication and relationship
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this session you should be able to:
– Know different measures to conduct a conversation
– understand what might interrupt the conversation with the client
Introduction
As dementia progresses, the person has difficulty communicating their thoughts and finding the right words. The inability to communicate properly can increase feelings of isolation and lead to embarrassing moments. However, the need to communicate does not diminish, but should rather be seen as an important aspect of maintaining quality of life.
Many communication difficulties depend to some extent on the illness the person is going through.
